Episode 30The Vitale Family
Mom and dad are both SciFi geeks that met and fell in love at a gas station where they both worked. They have 2 sons, 3 and 1½. The 1½ year-old suffers from multiple birth defects, including Arthogryposis, club feet, and skeletal displasia; he is moved around in a wheelchair. He will have a lifelong disability and mobility problems, However he is a bright child with a loving spirit. His family is creative and supportive but, as you have seen, has limited resources and a home which is not adapted to his needs. Although he can’t move very well, he loves to paint, so Mom started up Angel Boy Art, an organization that allows children to paint and auction off their work to raise money and awareness to their particular disease. The house that the family lives in was not built on a foundation that supports it, and engineers have said that one day, without warning, it will collapse and possibly kill everyone inside. EMHE will build this loving family a safe home in which they can care for their children and offer the medical therapy needed to improve both the child and parents’ quality of life.
