Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 2The Rodriguez Family
U.S. Army Sergeant Luis Rodriguez is used to being the one who takes care of other people. As a combat medic who served nine months in Iraq, he did his share of saving his fellow soldiers. But after his envoy’s vehicle was ambushed by a roadside bomb, Rodriguez sustained multiple injuries including the loss of his right leg above the knee. This time it was he who needed saving.
After sixteen surgeries and four months of rehab, Sgt. Rodriguez has learned to walk again with his new prosthetic and crutches. However the narrow hallways and awkward corners in his Clarksville, Tennessee residence make it difficult for Luis to navigate. Tripping over carpeting and barely managing his way into the bathroom has made for a difficult transition at home. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition chose this deserving war hero and his family for a complete home remodel which accommodates the special needs of Sgt. Rodriguez.
Along with wood flooring, hand rails and more space to move around in, KraftMaid cabinetry was custom made and installed in the Rodriguez home. The bathrooms were brightened and lightened in Sheridan and Northbrook door styles, both finished in white with stainless steel and pewter hardware. The kitchen and living room areas took a different turn, with KraftMaid’s custom Sedona style cherry cabinets. The textured Ravenna glass inserts set in the intense, brunette-colored Cognac finish brought a strong warmth to the Rodriguez home.
