Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 20The Westbrook Family
Gene Westbrook was injured in project Iraqi Freedom and was left paralyzed. He was discharged from the army and lived a positive life speaking of his experiences and helping others who were injured from the war. A loving father of three and devoted husband, Gene was well loved and respected throughout his community.
A few years later, a tragic car accident caused spinal cord damage to Gene’s only son, James, leaving him paralyzed as well. Now, father and son are both in wheelchairs and face the reality of a house that will never work for them. Not only are the Westbrook’s facing this new challenge but they also have over a million dollars in medical bills that are pilling up. In this episode of Extreme Makeover, the team remodels a house for a deserving war hero and his family who have suffered more than their share.
Bistro glass inserts highlight the beautiful Cognac finish of the cherry cabinetry in the Westbrook’s new kitchen. Custom KraftMaid cabinets were also installed in the laundry room for additional storage using White Thermofoil accented by Brushed Pewter door knobs. The master bathroom, as well as James’ bathroom, was outfitted with the soft, warm look of KraftMaid’s Cashmere Glaze on the maple cabinetry. For the girl’s bathrooms, the team went in a different direction, giving them a modern look with the sleek, streamlined style of KraftMaid’s Venicia line of cabinets. The high gloss sheen of this style is seen in the Ginger Maple Satin finish selected for the room and pulled all together with Aluminum Indented drawer pulls.
