Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 11The Chapin Family
Connie Chapin is a hard working single mother and avid swimmer who turned her backyard swimming pool into a much needed community resource. As a private swim instructor who started her own swim instruction company, Connie has taught over 200 kids, some who suffer from various disabilities like autism and cerebral palsy, how to swim -- a life saving skill Connie believes that all children should have.
In 2005 the city inspectors informed her that her facility was not up to code in certain areas and gave her a list of required improvements to make. For two years she has been getting extensions from the city as she has tried to make these improvements. During this time, Connie’s home was also inspected and she received even more bad news: The home had been poorly constructed and was on the brink of collapse. Now Connie was facing the possibility that she might lose her business AND home at the same time.
In this episode of Extreme Makeover, the team travels to Washington to rebuild not only a home, but allow this single mom to keep her business open and her family afloat.
The kitchen and laundry room of the Chapin’s new home were designed with KraftMaid cabinets in Natural stained maple wood and accented by Oil Rubbed Bronze door pulls. KraftMaid’s Venicia cabinetry was chosen for Connie’s master bathroom with the Capri door style in Tiber Cherry Satin making a bold statement. The children’s bathroom was completed with cherry wood cabinetry stained in Peppercorn with Satin Nickel Plaza knobs. Finally the party room and adjoining bathroom was constructed in White Thermofoil cabinets with Satin Chrome pulls.
