Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 5

Episode 12The Ray-Smith Family

Brittany Ray and Ron Smith first met in nursery school. After attending separate colleges, they were married in 1994 and returned to their hometown of Milbridge where both now work as teachers.

Largely because of its age, their home is in disrepair, including an outdated septic system, no insulation, a cracking foundation, an outdated furnace that overheats, a leaky roof, freezing pipes, and electrical wiring that is a fire hazard.

In addition to the struggles the Ray-Smiths face with their home, medical bills have piled up and keep coming. All three of their children have medical issues including autism and hyperlipidemia. In this episode of Extreme Makeover, the team travels to Maine, to give a solid home to this deserving family.

The Ray-Smith’s new home was designed using KraftMaid custom cabinetry, starting in the kitchen, library and laundry rooms, which were crafted from maple wood. Dove White was the finish selected for the new cabinetry, which was accented with Brushed Pewter hardware and Antiquity glass inserts were placed in the kitchen.

The master bathroom was designed using Lucerne cabinets from KraftMaid’s Venicia line. These sleek, European inspired cabinets were finished in Bianco Satin, a crisp white, with Brushed Pewter knobs highlighting the room. Two other bathrooms were also outfitted with KrafMaid cabinets, the first with the deep hue of Kaffe stained cherry wood. Honey Spice was chosen for the second bath crafted from maple wood with Satin Nickel hardware and Cascade glass door inserts completing the look.
