Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 5

Episode 2The Byers Family

The Byers family struggled for a year while they watched their seven-year-old daughter Molly battle cancer. In addition to fighting cancer, the family also lives in an unsafe home. The condition of the home has forced their 13-year-old, suffering from asthma, to move into his grandparents’ home. An outdated and filthy heating system only heats a portion of the home. The wiring is exposed and holes line the bottom and top of the walls. Mold and toxins are especially hazardous to both children. In this episode the Extreme Team reunites this family in a new home and gives them a fighting chance against their daughter’s cancer.

The Byers new home was rebuilt with KraftMaid custom cabinetry in a variety of styles. The modern, sleek styling of the Venicia cabinet line was used in the kitchen, utility room and bathroom in the new house. The Lustra Collection was chosen for the kitchen and utility rooms, and the deep brown Tygris Gloss finish was used accented by Aluminum Round bar pulls. Molly’s new bath was also outfitted in cabinets from Venicia, this time in Bianco Gloss, a sleek white finish with Satin Nickel Bow pulls.

The boys’ bathroom was given a masculine flavor with the dark Peppercorn finish of cherry wood cabinetry being accented by Aluminum Half Round Bar pulls. The master bath’s Satina glass inserts reflect nicely in the Natural finished maple doors, while the family’s new entertainment center is a stunning centerpiece in white thermofoil.
