Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 5

Episode 22The Latif Family

Ju-Juanna Latif struggled through a dysfunctional home life, became a high school dropout and a single teen mother. While living in a homeless shelter, Ju-Juanna was taught life skills, took parenting classes and received job training. She went to college, entered a work-study program and landed a job. Two troubled marriages and four kids later (one handicapped) Ju-Juanna continued to push and refused to stop running the race. Her eye was on the prize of home ownership.

Now Ju-Juanna is a proud working mom raising four children living in a home of her own. But that home is not accessible for her wheelchair bound nine-year old son and it is falling apart at the seams. In this episode, the Extreme Team travels to Delaware to give the Latif family a safe and functional home, so that Ju-Juanna and her children can continue to thrive and be all that they can be using her as their example.

The makeover began in the kitchen, where the Latif’s custom KraftMaid cabinetry built in cherry wood was stained in Peppercorn accented with Bistro Glass door inserts and Brushed Pewter hardware. Ju-Juanna’s bathroom was outfitted with KraftMaid’s White Thermofoil cabinets and sleek Aluminum Round Bar drawer pulls. Her son, Antonio’s new room was crafted from KraftMaid’s Euro-inspired Venicia line of cabinetry. Onyx Gloss was the chosen stain for the Carina door style, which has built-in continuous aluminum pulls.

An in-law suite was also designed with KraftMaid’s maple cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. Irish Cream Glaze finish was chosen for both rooms as well as Ravenna glass inserts to highlight the cabinet doors. Solid Brass Bronze hardware was used in the kitchen, while Scrolled Glass Round and Oval knobs adorn the doors in the bathroom. Finally, the upstairs bathroom was crafted with dark burgundy Cabernet finished cabinets, completed with Satin Silver pulls.
