Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 5

Episode 26The Usea Family

The city of Westwego has had a tough couple of years to say the least. They have been hit by a series of hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding. These natural disasters have devastated the homes and lives of those living there. Among the hardest hit is the Usea family.

Brad and Laura Usea had upwards of $15,000 worth of damage to their home after Katrina hit. The hurricane totaled Brad’s mother’s house leaving her, as well as his two brothers, homeless. Brad and Laura opened up their home to them.

After the dust settled, the Useas have found themselves a family of 5 adults and 2 small children crowded in a home damaged both from Katrina and the tornadoes. In this episode, the Extreme Team travels to Louisiana to give this family a bigger home, and allow their relatives to regain their independence.

The Usea’s new home was designed using KraftMaid custom cabinetry starting in the family’s main kitchen, where maple wood cabinets were installed. Biscotti, an off-white hue, was the finish chosen for the kitchen, with Bistro glass inserts and Weathered Iron hardware accenting the doors. Grandma got her own kitchen outfitted with Vanilla Bean Glaze stained cabinets and beautiful Scrolled Glass Round knobs complementing the woodwork.

A kitchenette area was designed using Venicia by KraftMaid. The Capri door style was selected and stained in Tygris Gloss, a deep brown sheen. Aluminum and stainless steel hardware as well as Satina glass inserts completed the sleek new look reflected in this room. The laundry room is now clean and bright with Dove White maple cabinetry and Brushed Pewter knobs and pulls.
