Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 6

Episode 15The Girard Family

In August of 2007 the Girard family lost their home to a fire and less than a year later, on June 1st of 2008, eldest son Marc and his father Thomas both drowned in a lake nearby the Girard’s home. Tom was swimming with his seven-year-old Hannah, when he started having trouble breathing and went under water. 18-year old Marc rushed and pulled Hannah to safety, then went back for his father. Tragically, neither Marc nor his father Tom made it back. Marc died trying to save his father’s life. Though the family has suffered immeasurable loss they remain strong and are inspired by the ultimate act of heroism displayed by Marc. After the accident, the remaining five members of the Girard family had to give up the tiny camper where they resided since the fire and have moved in with Carol’s mother temporarily. In this episode of Extreme Makeover, the team travels to Connecticut to rebuild a home for a family that has lost so much.

The warm tones of Chocolate abound in the kitchen and great room areas of the Girard’s new home. Custom KraftMaid cabinetry was selected for both rooms, with Antique Chocolate with Mocha Glaze staining the kitchen cabinets. Victorian camed glass inserts accented the cabinet doors while Pewter Ring and Bail pulls completed the design. Chocolate with Ebony Glaze provided a subtle contrast in the great room where Sterling Nickel drawer pulls completed the cherry wood cabinetry.

Maple wood was outfitted into the new breakfast alcove, where Antique Oatmeal with Ebony Glaze was chosen to finish the custom built dining space. Pewter hardware accented the woodwork in the alcove as well as the mudroom, which was designed using maple cabinetry stained in KraftMaid’s creamy Hazelnut with Mocha Glaze.
