Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Season 6

Episode 5The McCully Family

At only ten years old, Job McCully has been an inspiration to the small town of Bigelow, Arkansas. He’s beat the odds time after time, surviving leukemia, a bone marrow transplant, a double lung transplant and countless horrible side effects from the all of the treatments he’s received. He continues to have a smile on his face and generosity to others.

After years spent in and out of the hospital, he is still far from healthy. In March of 2008, he was finally able to come home. However, no matter how hard they try, the McCully family has been unable to make their home a safe place for Job to live. Their house is very old, and has leaks in the roof, the air conditioner and the floor. In 2006, fungus was discovered on Job’s lungs, which probably came from mold and mildew in the walls of their home. The family was then forced to pack up and move out and the house has been deemed uninhabitable.

In this episode of Extreme Makeover, the team travels to Arkansas to rebuild a suitable home for this ailing young boy and his deserving family after they have struggled so long with his illness.

The McCully’s new home was designed with KraftMaid cabinetry in many rooms including the kitchen and laundry rooms, which were outfitted abundantly with maple cabinets. Canvas with Cocoa Glaze finish was chosen for the two rooms as well as the adjoining entertainment center. Bistro glass inserts were set in the doors and Satin Nickel Bow pulls completed the cabinetry.

The cabinets under the kitchen island brought a deep green contrast into the room, where Moss with Mocha Glaze stain was used to highlight this central area. Finally, the McCully’s new master bath was equipped with Cherry cabinetry finished in Chocolate with Ebony Glaze. Antique Pewter hardware accented the doors as well as Classic Camed glass inserts.
