Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 21The Starkweather Family
Toen and Amy Starkweather’s nine-year-old son, Ethan, suffers from a rare disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome. This incurable disease causes low muscle tone, labored speech, troubled breathing and a malfunctioning hypothalamus, resulting in extreme and constant hunger. Because Ethan requires 24-hour care, the mounting list of necessary home repairs has continually been on the back burner. The Starkweathers’ small home is very old, riddled with foundational, electrical and plumbing problems, and is barely accessible for Ethan. In this episode, the Extreme team travels to Tusla to build a safe and functional home for this deserving family and their son.
Custom cabinetry by KraftMaid was used in four rooms in the Starkweather’s spacious new home. In the kitchen, family room and laundry areas, maple wood was chosen to craft storage cabinets in these high traffic areas in the home. Finished in Cinnamon, a spicy reddish-brown hue, the cabinets were accented with Stainless Steel Bar pulls and Silk glass door inserts. In an upstairs kitchenette, cherry wood cabinetry was stained in Peppercorn, a dark brown tones and completed with aluminum and stainless hardware form KraftMaid’s collection.
