Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 2 The Lutz Family
Grace and John Lutz were a loving couple who were unable to have children of their own. They gave their hearts to many children, including several with Down Syndrome. After the couple passed away, their son and daughter gave up successful careers and moved home to care for their siblings. But the crumbling condition of their 40-year-old home has become a concern. The Down siblings will not grow up and move away, they will not marry or drive cars; they need their home to be a safe permanent one, with everything to accommodate their special needs. Ty Pennington and the Extreme Team build this family a new home in East Setauket, New York.
Extreme Makeover partnered with KraftMaid to build a home with ample cabinet and storage space that accommodates the special needs of the Lutz family. Both the girls’ and boys’ bathrooms as well as the laundry room were designed with crisp, White Thermofoil cabinets embellished with Stainless Steel Bar knobs and drawer pulls. The master bathroom was outfitted with KraftMaid’s maple wood cabinetry, finished in Dove White and accented with Antique Brass Banded Spindle pulls. The family’s new kitchen was well equipped with cherry cabinets stained in Vintage Onyx, a black painted finished with an artistic sanding which creates the look of vintage fine furniture. Bistro glass inserts and Stainless Steel Bar pulls were chosen to complete the design of this room.
