Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
It all began with a television producer’s phone call asking KraftMaid to help a deserving family in need of a fresh start. Seasons later, we are proud to remain the exclusive cabinetry provider of ABC’s award-winning program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Episode 9Dunning Family
Rev. Dale Dunning’s daily life revolves around feeding hungry and homeless families in southern Delaware. The founder of Jusst Sooup, a non-profit organization, runs seventeen kitchens serving two counties in the state. Together with her husband and son, she wakes up every morning at 2am to start cooking. This “soup kitchen express” is on the road almost every day of the year.
The idea for a soup ministry was born as Dale studied for her ordination at the Sussex County School of Theology in Georgetown. Initially she provided “just soup,” but now the organization also provides clothing, toiletries, groceries, and some monetary support for the purchase of prescriptions, transportation and shelter.
For her service to others, Dale received the Delaware Governor’s Jefferson Award in 2008. A year later, she was featured in People magazine as one of their “Heroes in Hard Times” and as one of Oprah Winfrey’s “Hometown Heroes.” Yet the Dunning family has firsthand knowledge of being down on their luck. Putting four children through college and attending college herself, all while supporting her non-profit ministry, put Dale and her family in financial straits.
The family’s dream is to create the “Jusst Sooup Ranch,” including a home where the Dunning family would live and run a large-scale kitchen equipped to increase the number of homeless people they can feed. So Ty and the team head to Delaware to build the Dunning’s dream ranch. In addition to the main house, a small farm on the property will help supply food.
All the new construction includes beautiful KraftMaid cabinetry. Showcased in the main house is: Square Recessed Panel - Veneer (CTM) Maple in Willow in the kitchen with an island in Dove White, Square Recessed Panel - Veneer (CTM) Maple in Dove White in the laundry room, and Square Raised Panel - Solid (AB1C) Maple in Canvas in the master bathroom. The non-profit’s commercial kitchen features Square Raised Panel - Solid (HLC) Cherry in Cabernet w/Onyx Glaze in the buffet area and ice cream parlor. And the kitchenette in the micro-house is organized with Square Recessed Panel - Solid (DRHM) Maple in Onyx.
