Masco Cabinetry® Sponsors National Association of Home Builders’ Universal Design Day at the 2012 International Builders’ Show
Posted by KraftMaid on 9th Feb 2012
With the aging of baby boomers comes a direct effect on the building and remodeling industry. In fact, by 2030 about one in five people in the United States will be over 65, which means more and more homeowners will be reevaluating their current living situation. Masco Cabinetry, home of cabinetry brands KraftMaid®, Merillat®, QualityCabinets™ and DeNova™ countertops, is a resource and leader in the widely discussed topic and has partnered with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to educate industry members during Universal Design Day at the 2012 International Builders’ Show (IBS), Feb. 8 in Orlando, Fla.
Universal Design Day, an NAHB UD 50+ Housing Council initiative, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8 and is part of the larger 50+ Lifestyle Central at IBS. Universal Design Day offers a full day of discussion including expert-led education sessions and a luncheon with industry leaders and manufacturers.
As part of Universal Design Day, Sarah Reep, director of designer relations and education for KraftMaid, Merillat, QualityCabinets and DeNova, will present twice to industry professionals and show attendees hoping to increase their reach and expand their knowledge of universal design principles. The first session, titled “Universal Design: Affordable Alternatives for Builders and Remodelers,” will occur at 10 a.m. in West 314B and is open to all show attendees. It specifically focuses on kitchen design. The second session, titled “Design for All,” will occur at 1:30 p.m. in West 314A and is open to all show attendees. This session will feature a case study of the recent “Wounded Warrior Home Project” at Fort Belvoir, Va. Reep is a nationally recognized leader in the kitchen and bath industry, serves as an experienced educator and is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS).
Throughout IBS, NAHB’s 50+ Lifestyle Central will serve as a resource for show attendees with questions, issues or interest in the diverse 50+ housing market. A full schedule of Universal Design Day events and information about NAHB’s 50+ Lifestyle Central can be found at BuildersShow.com/50plus.
