The hinge is terrific, but the base plate that attaches to the door is a weak link. They break after a number of years. We should have the option of buying just the base plate instead of having to shell out $20+ on the whole hinge.
After trying to find a replacement hinge at a variety of hardware stores, finally tried ordering direct from KraftMaid. To my surprise, I found the part easily, ordered and received quickly, and installed perfectly.
These hinges work great until the base breaks- and it will. I am on my 4th or 5th base replacement. The part that breaks is a $2 item but you can only get the complete hinge for $21. Anyone have bases they want to swap for the hinge itself?
Nice cabinets with a very weak part.
Have had Kraftmaid cabinets for 16 years. The baseplate on three have broken. Fortunately, we were able to take off one of the baseplates on the cabinets with three hinges and use it for the broken plate. Unfortunately, we've used up our options and now have to spend $21 to buy two replacement baseplates along with the hinges which we DON"T need!
We ordered the hinges online for our 27 year old cupboards, hoping that they would fit. They were just right. I would have give 5 stars if instructions had been included. I went to Home Depot and they very kindly gave me some help.
I could not figure out how to install this hinge. Something needs to be unlatched and I am unable to figure it out.
Hinges are heavy duty and well made with the exception of the base plate which breaks, on my 3rd base plate in 10 years. Not acceptable from well made cabinets. KraftMaid should work on correction of this problem or replace base plates at no charge.
The hinge itself works well; is well-made and very sturdy. However, I had to buy this replacement hinge because the base plate that the hinge attaches to broke and seems to be considerably lower quality white metal construction than the rest of the hinge.
