Updating your kitchen doesn’t have to take a huge chunk out of your time and resources. Something as simple as a fresh bouquet of flowers or a coat of paint can bring new life to a space. Here are five fun and easy weekend projects to transform your kitchen’s look; no contractor required.

Cabinet Hardware

Replacing cabinet hardware is one of the easiest ways to change the look of your kitchen. Cabinet handles and pulls come in a variety of styles, colors and finishes, making it easy to incorporate your unique style into your kitchen’s design.

Backsplashes

Though backsplashes are both aesthetic and functional, they’re often overlooked in kitchen design. Transform a backsplash into a focal point with a variety of materials from ceramic to paint to stone. Add open shelves to create additional storage space.

Lighting

Replacing outdated lighting fixtures will ease your eyes in more ways than one. Go beyond the standard overhead light with track and cabinet lighting, which comes in a variety of prewired widths. Check out more of KraftMaid’s lighting options here. Always remember to practice home wiring safety when installing lighting: turn off the circuit breakers, follow the instructions and don’t be afraid to call in a pro if you have any questions.

Vegetation

Adding something beautiful from the outdoors is an easy and quick way to brighten the mood of any space. Add a splash of color with a vase of fresh-cut flowers or a potted plant. Rather than buying herbs from the store, grow your own on the kitchen windowsill.

Paint

Paint is the easiest and least expensive way to transform a kitchen. Walls, seating, cabinets and floors can be transformed with a single coat of color. And remember, paint isn’t permanent, so have fun experimenting!
